Do type 2 diabetics crave sugar?

My husband was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes recently, and he seems to crave sweets even more now. Is it common for people with Type 2 diabetes to experience strong sugar cravings? I'm trying to help him manage his diet better.

Yes, we absolutely do! When our blood sugar spikes and crashes, or if our cells aren't getting enough glucose, the body screams for quick energy in the form of sugar. I manage it by eating small, fiber-rich meals and keeping roasted chana nearby.

Oh yes, those sweet cravings can be super strong when sugar levels fluctuate! 🙈 It is totally natural because the body is trying to find quick energy. Trying sugar-free options or chewing some cardamom really helps me distract my mind!

I always worry when I get sudden sweet cravings, thinking my sugar is crashing. It is so stressful trying to balance what to eat. If you are experiencing this, please talk to your doctor so they can check your HbA1c levels and give you peace of mind.

The cravings can be very intense, but giving in to them constantly led to severe kidney complications for me. If your sugar cravings are getting out of control, please consult your doctor. It usually means your medicine or insulin dosage needs adjustment.

Cravings happen because insulin resistance stops glucose from entering your muscles for energy, leaving you feeling tired and hungry. Doing some strength training and eating high-protein snacks really helps stabilize blood sugar and kills those cravings naturally. Give it a try!
