Do tums cause kidney stones?

My father has a history of kidney stones, so I'm always careful about what I consume. I use Tums sometimes for heartburn, but I'm wondering if they could contribute to kidney stone formation. Could Tums actually cause kidney stones?

I literally just recovered from a 6mm kidney stone last month, and the pain was no joke. My doctor told me that taking too many calcium-based antacids daily can definitely increase the risk if you are prone to stones. Better to watch your intake and drink lots of water.

Because they contain a high amount of calcium, taking them like candy can sometimes cause stones. I always prefer drinking warm water with lemon or fresh coconut water for my acidity. If the pain is very sharp in your back or sides, though, don't wait and see a doctor immediately.

Please be very careful with this. I ignored my calcium intake and ended up with severe kidney complications and unbearable lower back pain. If you are taking these regularly for stomach issues, please consult a specialist before it turns into a painful stone.

Having thyroid issues means I already have to monitor my calcium levels very closely. Taking too much calcium carbonate can disturb your body's mineral balance and lead to kidney stones. Get a simple blood test and consult your doctor to know what's safe for your body.

I went to a specialist at Max Hospital for my chronic gastric issues last week. He clearly told me that self-prescribing heavy calcium antacids long-term is risky for kidneys. You should get a proper prescription instead of guessing your dosage.
