Do tomatoes aggravate arthritis?

My joint pain has been bothering me a lot lately, especially in my hands. A friend mentioned that tomatoes can aggravate arthritis, which made me think. I love tomatoes, so I'm wondering if I should really cut them out of my diet.

From my experience with diabetic diets, tomatoes are very low-calorie and nutrient-dense, which actually helps reduce overall systemic inflammation. Unless you have a specific sensitivity to nightshades, they shouldn't aggravate your arthritis.

I have been suffering from joint pain for over twenty years now and have eaten tomatoes in my dal and curry every single day. They have never made my pain worse. Do not stop eating healthy vegetables because of rumors.

I tried cutting out tomatoes for three weeks to see if my knee stiffness would reduce. Personally, I saw absolutely no difference in my symptoms, so I started eating them again because they add great flavor to food.

My mom was super worried about this too after reading something online! But her doctor told her that tomatoes actually contain anti-inflammatory compounds. So she eats them happily now and just focuses on her daily physiotherapy.

My teenager has juvenile arthritis and we asked her specialist about nightshades. The doctor said unless she is specifically allergic, there is no need to restrict tomatoes. Focus on a balanced diet and regular physical activity instead.

I agree, there is no scientific proof for this. Just eat them in normal quantities as part of your regular home-cooked meals.

Drinking warm turmeric milk daily helps more with joint inflammation than cutting out tomatoes. Tomatoes are full of antioxidants, but if you feel severe pain or swelling, please visit a doctor for proper diagnosis.
