Do they remove the old kidney in a transplant?

My brother is preparing for a kidney transplant, and we're trying to understand all the details. During a kidney transplant surgery, do they remove the old, diseased kidney, or do they just add the new one? I'm a bit confused.

No beta, they usually leave the old kidney inside and just add the new one in the front. The doctors only take out the old one if it is causing harm.

Usually they leave the old kidneys in place unless they are causing severe infection or high BP. Keeping your sugar levels perfectly managed is key before any such major surgery.

They usually keep the old ones inside. Make sure the patient gets plenty of rest and very clean, home-cooked food during recovery.

They typically leave them unless there is polycystic kidney disease or chronic infection. Always consult a transplant surgeon to understand your specific surgical plan.

No need to worry, they generally leave the diseased kidneys untouched to avoid extra surgical trauma. Doctors only remove them if absolutely necessary.

Haan na, even I was shocked to learn this! They actually keep the old kidneys inside and just place the new one in the lower belly.
