Do they put you to sleep for a root canal?

I have a bad toothache and the dentist said I need a root canal. I'm really scared of dental procedures. Will I be fully unconscious or put to sleep for a root canal, or is it just numbing medicine?

They keep you awake, which honestly made me super anxious and teary in the dental chair. It's totally okay to feel scared, just ask the dentist to take breaks.

No, they only use local numbing injections. Just make sure to eat a good meal an hour before because you won't be able to chew properly for a while.

No, beta, they just numb your tooth area. Keep a little clove oil handy for any mild ache once the numbing effect wears off.

You will be awake, but there is no need to worry. Keep your mind calm, chant a little silently, and the dentist will finish the work quickly.

No general anesthesia is used, only local. I even managed to go for my regular light evening walk right after my appointment.

They only numb the local area. Warm saltwater rinses help a lot with healing afterward, but do go back to your dentist if the pain gets worse.
