Do they put you to sleep for a colonoscopy?

My elder brother had a colonoscopy recently, and he said he was completely asleep throughout. Is it standard procedure for them to put you to sleep for a colonoscopy? I thought it was just sedation.

Most clinics use conscious sedation, but because I had a minor blood pressure drop during mine, I always advise checking with your doctor first to assess any underlying risks.

I had one done last year. They gave me an injection and I fell asleep within five seconds, then woke up feeling completely fine like nothing happened.

I was extremely anxious about this and kept researching for days. They actually give you a sedative that puts you in a very light, comfortable sleep so you won't feel anything.

Yeah, they do. They gave me IV sedation, I blacked out instantly and woke up in the recovery room. Super simple process.

They use standard twilight sedation. Just make sure to finish your liquid prep properly the day before, as a clean colon makes the procedure much quicker.

At my age, I have had a couple of these done. Don't worry at all, the sedation is very mild and you will just sleep through it without any pain.

They do put you to sleep. After waking up, stick to light, home-cooked vegetarian food like khichdi for a day to let your digestive system recover gently.
