Do they put u to sleep for a colonoscopy?

My doctor told me I need a colonoscopy, and I'm quite nervous about it. Will they put me completely to sleep for a colonoscopy, or will I be awake during the procedure? I'm really anxious about it.

They give you medicine to make you very sleepy so you don't feel any discomfort. Don't worry, it is a very common and safe procedure.

My brother told me to ask for complete anesthesia, but my doctor suggested mild sedation instead. You won't feel any pain, just a bit drowsy and relaxed during the procedure.

I was looking this up for my dad. It seems they use 'twilight sleep' where you are technically awake but totally relaxed and won't remember any pain.

Haan na, everyone gets scared of this! But they give you a nice sedative injection and you sleep through it, you won't even realize when it started and ended.

Most modern clinics use light propofol sedation. You fall asleep instantly and wake up feeling totally normal, my fitness tracker didn't even register any stress spikes.

They usually use conscious sedation, so you are very relaxed but not fully unconscious. Just make sure to discuss your fasting hours and sugar medications with the doctor beforehand.
