Do sugar free energy drinks cause kidney stones?

Someone told me that sugar-free energy drinks can cause kidney stones. I drink them quite often, especially when studying late, so I'm a bit worried now.

Bhai, with my late-night shifts I survive on energy drinks, sugar-free or not. My sleep is gone anyway, and if I get kidney stones on top of it, I am finished. I try to drink three bottles of water for every energy can just to wash it out.

Hey! Don't stress too much! Just balance it out by drinking lots of plain water throughout the day. Water is your kidney's best friend, so keep a bottle handy always.

They don't directly cause them, but the heavy caffeine can dehydrate you. Drink plenty of water and you will be safe.

Haha, if energy drinks gave stones directly, half of the IT sector would be walking around like quarries. Just don't drink them like they are water, na! Keep your water intake high and you should be totally fine.

According to my urologist, it is not the sugar-free aspect but the high caffeine and sodium content in these energy drinks that can dehydrate you. Dehydration is the real culprit behind calcium oxalate buildup. He advised me to strictly limit them to avoid stone risk.
