Do steroids reduce fever?

My child has a high fever, and we've been trying regular medicines. Someone mentioned that steroids are sometimes given for fever. Do steroids actually help in reducing fever, or are they meant for other things?

Do not start taking steroids just to bring down a fever. Fever is usually fought with paracetamol, and taking steroids without a clear medical diagnosis can mask serious infections. Verify with a qualified doctor before touching such strong medications.

Actually yaar, steroids fever reduce toh kar dete hain but they are not like normal Crocin. They suppress your immunity, so if you have an infection, it might actually get worse inside. Better to just consult a doc first.

With my PCOS, I am always extra careful about how medications affect my hormonal cycle. Steroids can reduce fever because they suppress inflammation, but they aren't standard fever reducers. It is always safer to ask your gynecologist or physician before taking them.

For mild fevers, I always recommend resting and drinking ginger-tulsi water. Steroids are very strong chemicals and should never be used as first-line treatment for a fever. If the fever is very high and not coming down, please go to a clinic immediately.

When I had severe pneumonia last year, my doctor put me on steroids to help control the lung inflammation, and my fever went down along with it. That was my specific case, so I can only share that it worked under hospital supervision.

Using steroids for a simple fever is highly risky and can lead to complications if there is an underlying infection. Please get a proper blood test done and consult your family doctor. Do not self-treat high temperatures at home.

I totally get it, running a high fever makes you feel completely drained and desperate for quick relief. But steroids are highly potent and can lower your body's ability to fight the infection causing the fever. Please take care and consult a doctor first.

Haan, steroids fever toh jaldi down kar dete hain kyunki vo body ka response block karte hain. Par hume bina doctor se pooche nahi lena chahiye na, tabiyat aur bigad sakti hai. Normal viral hai toh general medicine hi sahi hai.

My doctor prescribed a low dose of steroids along with antibiotics for my severe throat infection and fever. I was a bit confused by this. Is it common to give them together to help with recovery?

Let's be clear: steroids are anti-inflammatory drugs, not antipyretics. While they can lower a fever as a side effect of reducing inflammation, taking them for a routine fever is medical misuse. Get a proper prescription and don't self-diagnose.

I know how stressful it is when you have a stubborn fever and nothing seems to work, making you want to try any medicine available. But using steroids for fever can sometimes hide the actual symptoms of what's wrong. Please speak to a doctor to put your mind at ease.

Using steroids for a basic fever is like using a bazooka to kill a mosquito! Sure, it might bring the temp down, but it's massive overkill. Stick to your regular tea and paracetamol unless a doctor specifically tells you otherwise.
