Do steroids help with pain?

Having chronic back pain for months, it's really affecting my work. A friend suggested asking my doctor about steroids for pain relief. Do steroids generally help in managing severe pain conditions?

Steroids do reduce severe pain by calming heavy inflammation, but they aren't regular painkillers. You shouldn't take them without a proper prescription. Please get your pain evaluated by a doctor first to find out the real cause.

My dad was given oral steroids for a pinched nerve in his back and his excruciating pain stopped within a day. They definitely work for severe pain when normal meds fail. But yeah, don't just pop them casually like paracetamol.

Actually, steroids target the inflammatory path that causes pain, unlike routine NSAIDs. My doctor explained that they are highly effective for nerve pain or joint swelling, but we have to taper the dose slowly. Stopping them suddenly can cause your body's natural hormone balance to get messed up.

I had a massive ligament tear last year and the swelling was insane. The doc put me on a short course of steroids for 5 days. The pain went down big time and I could actually sleep. They work, but only use them under medical supervision.

My doctor prescribed steroids for my severe back pain, but I am really scared to start them because of the side effects. Did anyone else feel very jittery or face stomach issues while taking them for pain? Would love to know your experiences.
