Do statins raise liver enzymes?

Just got my annual health check-up done, and my liver enzyme levels were slightly elevated. I take statins for my cholesterol, so I'm wondering if this is a normal occurrence for people on this medication. Should I be concerned, doc?

Yes, they can sometimes cause a temporary spike in your SGOT and SGPT levels. It is a very common side effect when you start or change dosage. We usually see it settle down on its own, so don't worry, just keep your doctor informed.

My uncle had this issue last year. My mother wanted him to try some home remedies, but we decided to go straight to his physician. The doctor explained that a mild raise is normal and simply monitored him closely, which was the safest choice.

If you are starting statins, just schedule a budget-friendly Liver Function Test after 6 to 8 weeks. It costs around 350-500 rupees. If the levels are slightly high, your doctor will adjust the brand or dose easily.

I remember getting so scared when my liver report showed elevated numbers after starting my heart meds. I thought my liver was failing! But my doctor laughed and told me it is normal, and they went back to normal in my next monthly test.

Hey, don't stress too much about this! A small fluctuation in liver enzymes is super common with statins. Just talk to your doc during your next visit and they will guide you, it is honestly very manageable.

Humare yahan sab kahte hain ki medicines liver kharab karti hain, but that is not always true. My doctor explained that a small rise in enzymes is just a reaction, not permanent damage. Trust your doctor's advice over street talk.
