Do statins harm the liver?

Been on statins for my cholesterol for some time now, and I've heard conflicting things about their effect on the liver. Do statins generally harm the liver, or is that just a rare side effect? I'm just trying to be careful about my health.

Honestly, I was more worried about having to give up my weekend biryanis than about my liver! As long as you eat mindfully and don't load up on heavy street food daily, your liver handles the statins perfectly fine. Just balance your foodie habits thoda.

Usually not, serious harm is very rare. Just do your regular blood tests as advised by your doctor.

My doctor just prescribed statins to me and I am a bit nervous about this liver issue. Does everyone have to get blood tests done regularly? If someone could guide me on how often we need to check, that would be really helpful.

Look, severe liver damage from statins is incredibly rare. Doctors prescribe them to millions because the cardiac benefits far outweigh any minor risks. Just get your routine LFT done and stop stressing over every little thing.

To be safe, just keep a small budget aside for a Liver Function Test every six months. You can find packages online for as low as 400 rupees. It is a very small price to pay for absolute peace of mind while taking your daily heart medicines.
