Do starfish feel pain?
While watching a nature documentary last night about marine life, a thought came to my mind. Do starfish actually have the capacity to feel pain? It's just a random question, but I'm curious from a biological perspective.

Look, they don't feel pain the way humans do because they lack a proper brain. But that doesn't mean we should poke or disturb them. Just let nature be, and respect every living creature.
They don't have a brain like us, but they do have a nervous system that senses damage or danger. If you are keeping them in an aquarium or visiting a beach, the best practical solution is to just leave them alone and not touch them unnecessarily.
I love seafood, but starfish are definitely not on the menu! Scientifically, they react to bad stimuli to survive, even if they don't feel emotional pain. Better to just admire them from a distance while enjoying some fish curry nearby.
It is completely natural to feel empathetic and wonder about this, especially if you care deeply about nature. While starfish don't have pain receptors like we do, they definitely experience stress in harsh conditions. Taking care of our surrounding environment is always a good idea.
I saw some tourists taking starfish out of the water for photos and it made me feel so anxious. Do they actually suffer when kept out of water? I really hope people start showing more sensitivity to marine life.

I read about this in a biology journal recently. They don't have a centralized brain to register pain, only basic sensory nerves to avoid predators. So they just react automatically to harmful stuff, nothing more.
There are many myths about marine life online, so always read verified scientific sources instead of social media. Research shows they have nociceptors to detect negative physical stimuli, but no complex brain to process pain emotionally. Keep your facts verified.
