Do sand dollars feel pain?

I saw some sand dollars at the beach recently, and I picked one up. It made me wonder, do sand dollars feel pain? I felt a little guilty afterwards.

They don't have a brain or a complex nervous system like we do, so they don't feel pain the same way. By the way, if you accidentally stepped on a live one or got a cut on the beach, please get it cleaned properly at a clinic. I ignored a minor beach scrape once and it turned into a nasty infection.

They actually don't have a central brain, so they don't feel pain like we do! But they are still living creatures, so we should leave them alone on the beach. It's always best to let them stay in their happy home.

Biologically, sand dollars are echinoderms and lack a brain, meaning they respond to stimuli but don't experience pain in a cognitive sense. If you are asking because of an allergic reaction or injury from handling marine life, consult a medical professional immediately.

No, they don't have a nervous system to feel pain, so don't worry about that. Just a practical tip: if you find them on the beach and they are still wet or green, leave them there. Only collect the completely white, dry shells which are already dead.

They are simple creatures without a brain, so no pain for them. I wish keeping our own health was that simple! Walking on the beach is great for keeping my blood pressure under control, but I always make sure to wear comfortable footwear to avoid any cuts.
