Do people with dementia sleep a lot?

My father, who has dementia, seems to spend most of his day sleeping now. Is it normal for people with dementia to sleep a lot, or should I be concerned?

Dekho, dementia mein dimaag thak jata hai jaldi, toh zyada sona bilkul normal hai. Isme pareshan hone ki baat nahi hai, bas unka khayal rakho aur unhe comfort do.

It is completely natural to feel worried seeing them sleep so much, but please rest assured it is a very common part of dementia. Just make sure they are comfortable, and gently wake them up for their meals and medicines.

My grandfather sleeps almost 14 hours a day now. Honestly, sometimes I get a bit jealous because I barely manage five hours with my busy schedule, but yes, it is just how the condition works.

Don't go trying random home remedies or sleep supplements you read about on WhatsApp groups. Increased sleep is common in dementia, but any sudden change should be discussed directly with their neurologist.

While sleeping more is expected as the condition progresses, a sudden onset of extreme drowsiness could also mean an infection or dehydration. Please consult their treating doctor to be absolutely safe.

Yes, they do sleep a lot because their brain is busy doing heavy calculations all day! Jokes aside, it's totally normal for them, so don't stress too much and let them rest.
