Do pain meds cause constipation?

After my recent surgery, I've been taking prescription pain medication, and I've noticed I'm constipated a lot. Is it common for pain meds to cause constipation as a side effect?

Haan bilkul, ye toh bahut common side effect hai pain killers ka. Mujhse toh doctor ne saaf bola tha ki saath me thoda fiber zyada khana aur paani peete rehna. Bina baat ke acidity aur pet ka system kharab ho jata hai na in dawaion se.

Yes, they definitely can do that to your digestion. Please try drinking lukewarm water throughout the day, it really helps to ease the bowel movements. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

My thyroid keeps my digestion quite slow anyway, and pain tablets make it a double blow. I highly suggest getting a proper follow-up with your doctor instead of waiting. Let them check your levels and prescribe something that won't mess with your routine.

I deal with gut issues already due to my PCOS, and whenever I take strong pain meds, it gets much worse. I cannot say for sure if it happens to everyone, but it is a known issue. It is always safest to ask your gynac or general physician for a mild stool softener.

Oh absolutely, those pills can totally block you up inside. Don't stress too much though, just load up on papaya and lots of water for a couple of days. It will clear up once the heavy meds stop, chill.

Honestly, I had such a horrible time with this after my knee surgery. The constipation was actually more frustrating than the pain itself, and it made me feel so miserable. You are not alone in this, please don't suffer silently and tell your doctor.
