Do night guards cause cavities?

My dentist recommended a night guard for my teeth grinding problem, and I've been using it for a few months. Lately, I've been noticing some new sensitivity in my teeth. Can wearing a night guard actually cause cavities, or am I misunderstanding something?

Night guards themselves don't cause cavities, but if you don't clean them or your teeth properly before wearing them, bacteria gets trapped. This trapped plaque is what causes decay. It is best to follow your dentist's hygiene protocol.

Haan, agar bina brush kiye pehnoge toh cavities ho sakti hain na. Kyuki food particles and saliva guard ke andar block ho jate hain. So bas night me acche se brush karke hi pehno, fir tension nahi hai.

No, they don't cause cavities if you keep them clean. Just make sure you brush your teeth thoroughly before putting the guard in, and wash the guard daily with normal water and liquid soap. It's that simple.

I just started using a night guard last week and I'm so scared of getting cavities underneath it. Has anyone else felt their teeth getting more sensitive or experienced issues after wearing it?

My teenager wears a night guard for teeth grinding. We make sure he brushes and flosses every single night before putting it on, and we soak the guard in a cleaning solution weekly. No cavities so far in two years.

They only cause cavities if you wear them over unbrushed, dirty teeth. Cleanliness is key.

I was so worried about this when my dentist suggested a guard for grinding. I keep thinking, what if bacteria is multiplying inside all night? I literally scrub it like crazy every morning just to be completely safe.
