Do newborns sleep with blankets?

My mother-in-law insists on putting a blanket on our newborn baby while he sleeps, saying it keeps him warm. But I read online that blankets are not safe for newborns. Is it okay for them to sleep with blankets, or should I avoid it completely?

My cousin just had a baby and she never uses loose blankets in the crib because of safety rules she read online. They just use those cute sleep sacks or swaddles instead, which looks way safer and easier.

Never put loose blankets in a newborn's crib as it poses a serious suffocation risk. Instead, swaddle them tightly with a breathable cotton cloth or use a wearable sleep sack to keep them warm and safe.

Actually yaar, loose blankets are a big no-no for babies under one year. Just swaddle them nicely in a soft mulmul cloth, it keeps them super cozy and safe.

I am preparing for my sister's delivery and this is a bit confusing. If we can't use blankets, how do we keep the baby warm in winter when the AC or room temperature is cold?

Traditionally, we always swaddle newborns tightly in clean, soft cotton sheets to keep them snug. Loose bedding should be avoided, and if the baby ever has breathing issues or high fever, go to the pediatrician immediately.

Don't stress too much about winter cold! Just get those lovely zippered sleep sacks that stay in place. They are super safe and your baby will sleep like a little angel without any loose blankets shifting around.

Keep those heavy blankets completely out of the crib! Just dress the baby in layers of cotton clothes and swaddle them securely so there is absolutely zero risk of the cloth covering their face.
