Do neonates feel pain?

I'm a new mom and my baby sometimes cries inconsolably, like after vaccinations or when the doctor takes a blood sample. It breaks my heart. Do neonates or newborn babies actually feel pain the way adults do?

Yes, newborn babies absolutely feel pain, just like we do! Their tiny nervous systems are fully developed, so we always have to be very gentle and loving with them.

A newborn soul is incredibly sensitive to every touch, sound, and physical sensation. They feel pain very deeply, which is why a mother's gentle skin-to-skin touch and calm breathing are so healing for them.

They definitely feel pain during vaccinations or blood draws. When taking them to the hospital, check if the pediatrician uses sweet water drops or topical numbing gels, as it is a cheap and effective way to reduce their distress.

Anyone who has heard a newborn cry during a vaccination knows they feel pain loud and clear! It breaks your heart, but thankfully they forget it very quickly once they are fed.

Of course they feel pain, they are human babies, not toys! Their skin and nerves are actually super sensitive, so always make sure the doctor is handling them with extra care during any procedure.
