Do muscle relaxers make you sleep?

My friend takes muscle relaxers for her back pain and she swears they also make her sleep like a baby. I've been having trouble sleeping lately too. Do muscle relaxers actually make you feel sleepy as a side effect?

Haan na, they make you extremely sleepy. Actually, the medicine relaxes the whole nervous system, so you feel heavy and just want to lie down. It's better to take them only at night time.

They actually knockout you completely, yaar! I took one for my back spasm in the afternoon and slept straight for six hours. Better to plan your dose when you have no work left to do.

I panicked so much when I couldn't wake up on time after my first dose. But later my doctor told me it's totally normal for the first couple of days. The grogginess goes away as your body gets used to the medicine.

I was prescribed a muscle relaxant today for my neck stiffness, but I am scared to take it. Will it make me feel very dizzy in the morning too? I have an online class early tomorrow.

While they do make you sleepy, try not to lie in bed all day. Once the heavy drowsy feeling goes away, doing some basic mobility drills or a short walk helps clear the grogginess much faster.

Yes, drowsiness is a major side effect, but please do not use them as self-medicated sleeping pills. Using muscle relaxants without a doctor's guidance can affect your breathing and heart rate during sleep. Consult a proper physician first.

Look, they will definitely put you to sleep, that's what they do. Just don't plan any office meetings or driving after taking it. Take it, switch off your phone, and sleep.

They definitely cause strong sleepiness. For muscle recovery, I prefer drinking warm chamomile tea or a hot water bath before bed. But if your muscle spasm is severe, definitely take the medicine your doctor prescribed.

Sedation is a primary pharmacological effect of most muscle relaxants. While this helps patients rest and heal, it should not be misused for chronic insomnia. Please consult your healthcare provider to discuss safe usage parameters.

They do cause deep sleep, which is why you must check the dosage with your doctor. Never double the dose even if you are in extreme pain, as it can cause dangerous respiratory depression. Take care and stay safe.
