Do kidney stones hurt?

My friend recently had to go to the emergency room due to severe pain, and it turned out to be a kidney stone. She said it was the worst pain of her life. Do kidney stones really hurt that much, or is it different for everyone?

I was reading about this because my dad might have them, and apparently, they hurt a lot when they start moving down the urinary tract. Everyone online says the pain is quite intense. It's definitely better to get a medical opinion if you suspect you have one.

Oh totally, they can hurt quite a bit when they try to pass. But don't stress too much, once you consult a doctor and get the right painkillers, the pain becomes very manageable. Just hang in there!

Yes, they can definitely hurt! 😭 The pain usually hits your lower back or side. But with lots of water and proper doctor advice, you can flush them out. Stay strong! 💪

Yes, they can cause a very sharp pain in your back or side. When I had it, I kept my workouts on hold and only did light walking when the pain subsided, as advised by my doctor. Make sure to rest during painful episodes.

I know how terrifying the pain can feel, and it is completely normal to be scared. The pain is real and can be intense, but please remember that doctors deal with this every day and they can help you feel better very quickly.

They do hurt, especially when the stone is moving through the narrow tubes. The pain can come in waves and be quite severe. My practical advice is to keep your doctor's contact handy and never delay taking prescribed medication.

They do hurt, and seeing my son deal with that sharp side pain was very tough. But once we got him to the doctor and started the treatment, he recovered beautifully. Keep your child or yourself hydrated and comfortable.

Yes, they can be painful. Because I have PCOS, I'm always cautious about assuming what abdominal pain is, so I'd highly recommend getting a proper scan to confirm it is actually a kidney stone and not something else.
