Do kidney stones cause urinary tract infections?

I seem to get urinary tract infections quite frequently, and recently, I also found out I have a small kidney stone. My doctor mentioned a possible connection. Do kidney stones cause urinary tract infections, or do they just occur independently?

Yes, they absolutely can. Kidney stones can block the normal flow of urine, which allows bacteria to gather and multiply, leading to a UTI. If you start feeling a burning sensation or get a fever, you'll need a doctor to prescribe proper antibiotics, so don't ignore it.

They definitely do, I have been through this twice. The stone scratches the tract and urine gets trapped, which is a perfect recipe for a UTI. My advice is to drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily to flush things out, but if you feel feverish, go straight to the clinic.

Drinking fresh barley water or coconut water can help flush the tract and soothe minor irritation. But remember, if the stone is causing a full-blown bacterial infection, home remedies won't cure it. Please consult a doctor for a proper urine test and treatment.

Yes, kidney stones can lead to UTIs. Managing my PCOS makes me very cautious about any pelvic discomfort, so I always get a urine routine test done if things feel off. I'd suggest you do the same instead of guessing, just to be safe.

Just recovered from this last week! The stone had caused a painful UTI because it was blocking the flow. My doctor put me on a course of antibiotics and told me to drink plenty of fluids. Seriously, get it checked before the infection spreads up to your kidneys.

I panicked like crazy when I got a sudden fever and burning pain with my kidney stone, thinking it was a major emergency. Turns out it was just a common UTI caused by the stone blocking my urine. Once the doctor gave me antibiotics, I felt much better in two days, so don't worry.
