Do kidney stones cause back pain?

I've been suffering from severe lower back pain for the past few days, and it's making me really worried. My doctor is checking for kidney stones. Can kidney stones cause such intense back pain, and where exactly would I feel it?

When I had an 8mm kidney stone, the back pain was so sharp and intense on my right side that I couldn't even sit down. It felt very different from a normal muscle ache and only went away after the doctor treated the stone.

Yes, they cause terrible back pain. I ignored mine thinking it was a gym injury, which led to a severe kidney blockage and infection. If you have sharp, sudden back pain accompanied by nausea or fever, please go to a hospital immediately.

Yes, kidney stones are a classic cause of severe, spasmodic back pain, often referred to as renal colic. This happens when the stone blocks the flow of urine. It is highly recommended to seek medical advice for a proper scan and treatment plan rather than self-diagnosing.

Oh, they absolutely do! It's not your regular 'getting old' back pain, it feels like someone is poking you with a hot iron rod from the inside. If you feel that sharp, shooting pain on one side, get an ultrasound done before it gets worse.

Yes, they do. My teenage son had severe lower back pain and we initially thought it was from playing sports, but it turned out to be a kidney stone. Please monitor the pain closely and take them to a doctor to get an ultrasound.

They cause a very specific type of sharp back pain that comes and goes in waves. I foolishly ignored it for weeks using pain relief balms, which delayed my treatment and caused complications. Go get it checked by a doctor right away.

My roommate had this last semester and he was literally rolling on the floor with back pain during exam week. It usually hits one side of your lower back and can spread to the front too. Best to get it checked by a doc.
