Do infants sleep more during growth spurts?

My baby has been sleeping much more than usual lately, and my mother-in-law said it could be a growth spurt. Is there a connection between growth spurts and infants sleeping more? I'm curious if this is a known phenomenon.

Haan na, they definitely sleep a lot more during growth spurts! My baby would suddenly sleep for hours together and then wake up absolutely starving. It is totally normal, their bodies need that energy to grow.

I know how stressful it is when your baby's sleep schedule suddenly changes overnight and you start fearing the worst. I went through the exact same panic. But yes, extra sleep is very common when they are hitting a growth milestone, so try to rest while they rest.

My mother always tells us that babies grow while sleeping, which actually makes sense. During a growth spurt, their brains produce growth hormones during deep sleep. Still, if you feel the sleepiness is abnormal, a quick call to your pediatrician will give you peace of mind.

While extra sleep can be a sign of a growth spurt, don't just rely on internet forums if the baby is unusually lethargic. If they aren't wetting enough diapers or seem too weak to suckle, skip the home remedies and consult your doctor immediately.

In our old days, we observed that babies sleep deeply when they are about to stretch and grow. You can gently massage their little legs with warm sesame oil before bedtime. It eases any growing pains and helps them sleep peacefully.
