Do i use heat or ice for back pain?

My lower back has been hurting a lot after a long day at work. I've heard conflicting advice about whether to use a hot pack or an ice pack for back pain. Which one is generally more effective for sudden back ache, doc?

My back is permanently screaming from sitting on my office chair with zero sleep. Usually, ice is for fresh injuries or sudden sprains, and heat is for those old, stiff muscles that hate you. Right now, a warm water bag is the only thing keeping me going.

Hey! Use an ice pack if you just hurt your back today to reduce the swelling. If it's a regular dull ache from sitting, a warm heating pad will feel so relaxing! Hope you feel better soon.

Don't stress too much, back pain happens to all of us. If you just pulled a muscle, apply ice for the first 48 hours to calm it down. After that, switch to a hot water bag to loosen up the stiffness. You'll be fine!

While waiting for my hot biryani to arrive, I am sitting with a warm heating pad on my lower back. Heat works wonders for general stiffness and comforting those sore muscles. If it's a fresh injury though, go with ice first!

If it's an old, chronic backache, a simple hot water bottle works best to relieve the stiffness. For sudden pain from lifting something heavy, wrap some ice in a towel and apply it. Don't buy expensive fancy gel packs, simple home things work fine.
