Do hot flashes feel like a fever?

My mother recently started having hot flashes, and she keeps saying they feel just like a fever. I'm trying to understand what she's going through. Do hot flashes truly feel like a fever, or is it a different kind of heat?

At this age, my wife and I have our own internal summer seasons! Yes, she says a hot flash feels exactly like a sudden, intense fever where you start sweating buckets out of nowhere. The only difference is it disappears in five minutes, leaving you shivering under the fan.

My mom goes through this sometimes and suddenly turns off the AC or starts sweating even in winter. It looks exactly like she has a sudden high fever. It's wild how hormones can just mess with your body temperature like that.

They definitely feel like a sudden fever, but please be careful. I kept ignoring my 'hot flashes' thinking it was just early menopause, but it turned out to be a thyroid complication and a low-grade chronic infection. If you also have body aches or chills, please get a professional checkup.

When my thyroid levels were completely imbalanced, I used to get these sudden intense heat waves that felt exactly like a 102-degree fever. I highly suggest getting a complete thyroid and hormone panel done regularly, and consulting your doctor to balance your levels.

I suddenly feel this intense burning heat in my face and chest, and my heart starts racing like I have a severe flu. But when I check with a thermometer, my temperature is completely normal. Does anyone else get this scary feeling? I'm really worried.

Beti, in this phase of life, the body's internal fire becomes imbalanced. It feels like a sudden fever, but it is just natural hormonal changes. Try drinking cold fennel water (saunf ka paani) or coconut water daily to keep your body cool, but do consult a vaidya or doctor if you feel very weak.

Sudden flushing and heat sensations can feel like a fever, but they can also happen due to blood pressure fluctuations. If you are experiencing these hot episodes often, please monitor your BP at home and show the readings to your doctor during your next checkup.

Yes, they feel very similar to a fever. My wife found that wearing light cotton clothes in layers helps a lot, so she can easily remove a jacket or shawl when she feels hot. Keeping a bottle of cold water with you always is a very simple and useful solution.

I recently went through a phase of intense postpartum hot flashes, and I was constantly checking my temperature thinking I had an infection. It really does feel like a sudden fever wave. Once my hormones settled down after a few weeks, the flashes stopped completely on their own.

It is so exhausting and emotionally draining to deal with these sudden heat waves. You feel like your body is burning up and you just want to cry because of the discomfort and embarrassment in public. Your struggle is completely real, and it's okay to seek medical help to make your life easier.

While hot flashes present with a subjective sensation of extreme heat and flushing similar to a fever, they do not cause a true rise in core body temperature. This is due to a temporary malfunction in the brain's thermoregulatory center. Consulting a gynecologist is the best way to manage these vasomotor symptoms safely.

Many women confuse hot flashes with a physical fever because of the intense sweating and redness. However, hot flashes usually pass in a few minutes, unlike a real fever which stays. Deep breathing exercises and reducing spicy food in your dinner can help minimize the intensity.
