Do high protein diets cause kidney disease?

I've been on a high-protein diet for muscle gain for a few months now. My gym trainer actually warned me that it could be bad for my kidneys in the long run. Is there any truth to high protein diets causing kidney disease?

If you have healthy kidneys, a high protein diet is usually totally fine! Just make sure you drink lots of water to help your body process it easily. Always listen to your body and don't overdo the supplements.

I track all my macros on my fitness app and consume about 140g of protein daily. From the research I've logged, high protein only strains kidneys if there is a pre-existing undiagnosed kidney issue. It's a good practice to get a routine renal function test done once a year just to be sure.

I totally get it, when you start a new fitness journey, all these warning articles online can be so confusing and scary. My brother went through the same dilemma when he started his gym diet. Unless you have prior kidney issues, moderate high protein from natural sources is safe.

Our bodies are beautiful machines that can process the nutrition we feed them when we live in balance. Do not fear your food, but try to get your proteins from natural, clean sources like dals, paneer, and nuts. Stay positive, keep your mind calm, and take care of your health.

I remember feeling so guilty and stressed every time I drank a protein shake, thinking I was damaging my body. It is exhausting to constantly worry about health side effects when you are just trying to get fit. Talking to a nutritionist really helped relieve that anxiety for me.

I had this exact same doubt when I started my low-carb, high-protein diet for weight loss! My doctor told me that as long as my water intake is high and I'm not over-relying on artificial powders, my kidneys will be perfectly fine. Just don't go to extremes.
