Do hand massages help arthritis?

My mother has been suffering from arthritis in her hands for quite some time now, and the pain can be very bothersome. A relative suggested getting regular hand massages. Can hand massages actually help to relieve arthritis symptoms or improve flexibility?

Massages might feel good temporarily, but you must be careful not to press too hard on inflamed joints. Please get a proper diagnosis from a rheumatologist before trying any self-treatment.

Hey, don't worry too much. Gentle hand massages with warm mustard oil can definitely bring some relief to stiff fingers, just make sure you are extremely gentle with the joints.

At my age, my hands feel like creaking doors in the morning! A light massage with warm oil definitely helps lubricate the rust, but don't expect it to make you feel twenty again.

My dadi has arthritis and she always asks me to gently massage her hands when they ache. It seems to help her with the morning stiffness, especially during the winters.

I tried vigorous massaging for my joint pain last year and it actually worsened the inflammation terribly. Please consult your doctor first because wrong pressure on swollen joints can cause long-term damage.

I get so worried when I feel joint stiffness, but light stroking with warm sesame oil is supposed to be safe. Just don't apply deep pressure because that makes me paranoid about bone damage.

I have been dealing with joint pain for fifteen years. Gently massaging with warm castor oil mixed with a little camphor really helps soothe the pain, but do it lightly without twisting the fingers.

According to my orthopedist, gentle massage improves blood circulation and reduces joint stiffness, but it must be done with light pressure. He advised avoiding it completely during an acute flare-up when joints are red and hot.
