Do gabapentin help with back pain?

I've been suffering from chronic back pain for years, and it's really affecting my daily life. I heard someone mention a medicine called Gabapentin. Does Gabapentin actually help with back pain, or is it more for nerve issues?

Don't take gabapentin just because someone online recommended it for back pain. It is a strong nerve medication and has serious side effects, so only use it if a qualified neurologist prescribes it to you.

Gabapentin works only if your back pain is due to nerve compression or sciatica. If it is just a muscle pull, this medicine won't do much, so please get a proper diagnosis first.

I totally get it, back pain can make daily life absolutely miserable. My father was prescribed gabapentin for his nerve pain and it really helped him, but he only took the exact dose the doctor told him.

I kept popped random painkillers for my back pain until it got so bad I couldn't walk. Please see an orthopedic doctor instead of self-managing with heavy medications like gabapentin.

From what I know, it's mostly for nerve-related issues and not general muscle aches. It's always safer to ask your doctor for a proper plan rather than self-medicating.

My doctor put me on gabapentin last month for my slip disc nerve pain and it did bring down the burning sensation. Make sure you don't stop it suddenly as it can cause withdrawal.
