Do fever reducers prolong illness?

My child has a fever, and I'm giving him fever reducers as prescribed. However, I recently heard that using them might actually make the illness last longer. Do fever reducers prolong illness, or is it okay to use them as needed?

Haan, physically fever humari body ka mechanism hai virus se ladne ka, toh tablets lene se thoda body slow respond karti hai. But iska matlab ye nahi ki high fever mein medicine na lein. Balance rakhna zaroori hai na.

While a fever is technically the body's natural defense system, modern doctors say there is no strong proof that normal use of fever reducers actually prolongs common colds or flu. Taking medicine helps you rest and stay hydrated, which are both essential for recovery.

I was told that suppressing a mild fever is bad, but I get very uncomfortable when my temperature rises. Is it okay to take medicine for a 99-100°F fever, or should I wait and let the body fight it out?

I once avoided taking paracetamol thinking my body will fight the fever naturally, and ended up with severe dehydration and a hospital visit. Please don't experiment with high temperatures. Get a proper checkup from a doctor if the fever stays for more than two days.

Honestly, when you have back-to-back office meetings, you can't afford to sit with a high fever. Taking a fever reducer lets me function and do my daily work safely. Just don't self-medicate blindly; if the fever keeps coming back, see a doctor.
