Do earwigs bite you in your sleep?

I found an earwig in my room last night, and now I'm super paranoid. I heard a scary story that earwigs crawl into your ears and bite you in your sleep. Is this true, or is it just an old wives' tale?

They actually don't seek out humans to bite or crawl into ears, that is mostly an old myth. I once had a skin rash during monsoon and asked my doctor if it was a bug bite; he said earwigs rarely bite unless pinch-provoked, and their pinch is harmless anyway.

Do not let fear ruin your peaceful sleep, beta. Keep your room clean, light a small diya or camphor, and sleep with a calm mind. These tiny creatures are just part of nature and won't harm you intentionally.

Bro, I saw one in my hostel room during the rains and lost my mind searching on Google. Turns out they just like damp places and don't care about humans at all. You can sleep peacefully, no worries!

As someone living in a very green area, I see earwigs all the time. They are completely harmless to humans. Just shake your bedsheets before sleeping and keep your windows screened to keep them out.

They are just attracted to moisture and don't bite humans. Rest well and don't let this worry you.

Honestly, I'm already struggling to get four hours of proper sleep because of work stress. If earwigs started biting me too, I'd probably just invite them to finish the job. Jokes apart, they don't do anything, sleep easy.
