Do diabetics urinate a lot?

My mother has been diagnosed with diabetes recently, and she's constantly going to the washroom, day and night. We're trying to understand all the symptoms. Is it typical for diabetics to urinate much more frequently than normal?

I panicked so much when I had to use the washroom every hour, thinking the worst. Once my doctor adjusted my lifestyle and diet, it became completely normal again. Don't worry, it is a very common symptom and highly manageable once you start treatment.

I have been living with diabetes for over twenty years now, and yes, this is usually the very first sign. Your body is just trying to flush out the extra sugar. Once your medicines start working, this frequency will settle down, so don't lose heart.

Beta, when the body has too much sugar, it naturally tries to clean it out through urine. Sipping warm water throughout the day is good, but you must avoid self-treating. Go to a good doctor and get your fasting sugar tested properly.

I was actually researching this online for a family member and found that 'polyuria' is indeed the scientific term for this. It seems to happen because excess sugar draws more water into the urine. Definitely worth getting a medical opinion to be sure.

Oh absolutely, I used to think I was just a highly hydrated person until I got tested! It is like your bladder decides to go on a solo marathon. Get a quick test done, at least you will save on your office washroom trips once it is sorted!

My grandmother used to say that frequent urination means the body is heated up, but my doctor explained it is actually the kidneys clearing excess glucose. While traditional wisdom is good, trusting the doctor's prescription is what really kept her healthy.
