Do diabetics need sugar?

My father has diabetes, and we are very careful about his sugar intake. But sometimes, when he feels dizzy, someone suggested giving him a little bit of sugar. I'm really confused; do diabetics ever actually *need* sugar, or should it always be avoided?

Having PCOS makes me super careful about insulin resistance, and from what I understand, we don't need added refined sugar at all. But our body does need glucose from natural sources like whole grains and veggies. It's a very thin line, so I always try not to overdo any sweet stuff.

Please be very careful with sugar levels because both high and low sugar can be dangerous. You should consult your doctor to understand how many carbs or natural sugars your body actually needs daily. Don't make any major diet changes without their advice.

Our bodies run on glucose which comes from normal food, so we don't need to eat extra sugar. Please take care of your health and don't stress too much about these things, just follow your doctor's daily routine.

I recently managed to bring my HbA1c down from 8.2 to 6.1, so I can tell you this from fresh experience. You don't need table sugar at all, but do keep a small piece of candy or sugar tablets nearby just in case your blood sugar suddenly drops too low.

Direct cheeni ki zaroorat toh bilkul nahi hoti yaar, lekin glucose toh chahiye hi body chalane ke liye na. Haan, agar kabhi sugar ddown ho jaye toh emergency ke liye thoda meetha paas rakhna chahiye. Apne doc se ek baar consult kar lo sabse badhiya rahega.

Agree with others here. Direct sugar isn't needed, but complex carbs that break down into glucose are essential for energy.

I totally get it, those sweet cravings can be so hard to control when you are told to stay away from sugar. While diabetics don't need direct white sugar, your body definitely needs natural energy sources. Don't be too harsh on yourself, just take it one day at a time.
