Do diabetics crave sugar?

My brother was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and he complains about really strong sugar cravings, especially after meals. Is it common for diabetics to feel such intense cravings for sweet things? It's making his diet control very difficult.

Yes, sugar cravings are very common in diabetics because the body cells don't get enough glucose for energy. Please try to be gentle with yourself, and maybe try healthy alternatives like a few nuts when you feel the urge.

I get so worried when my dad craves sweets late at night, thinking his sugar will shoot up. It actually happens because his cells are starving for energy even if there's sugar in the blood. We try to keep sugar-free jelly or some seeds handy just to keep him safe.

Yes, they do, but giving in to those cravings will only increase your medicine and doctor consultation bills in the long run. I suggest buying a home glucometer during online sales to check your sugar whenever you crave sweets; seeing the high numbers on the screen is the best budget-friendly way to stop yourself!

Oh, tell me about it! The moment you are told you can't have sweets, your brain wants ten rasgullas. It's actually a biological thing too because the cells aren't absorbing glucose properly. I fight it by having a small piece of dark chocolate sometimes.

I totally get it, those sudden sweet cravings can be so hard to control. My husband faces this daily, and we realized that eating balanced meals with enough fiber really helps in reducing these intense urges.
