Do creatine affect kidney?

I've been using creatine as a supplement for my workouts. My trainer says it's perfectly safe, but my mom heard somewhere that it can affect the kidneys. Does creatine actually have a negative impact on kidney health?

Please be very careful with this. I had some mild kidney issues after taking gym supplements without a proper checkup first. Do not start creatine blindly, get a simple kidney function test done first and show it to a proper doctor.

I have PCOS and wanted to try creatine for muscle strength, but I was very hesitant. From what I understand, it is generally safe for healthy people but can load the kidneys if you don't drink enough water. I would suggest talking to a nutritionist before starting just to be on the safer side.

I am also thinking of starting gym soon and was wondering about this. Is it true that we have to drink 4-5 liters of water daily if we take creatine? I worry that my body might not handle so much water or the powder properly.

According to most clinical studies tracked on my fitness apps, creatine is extremely safe if you are healthy and stick to 3-5g daily. Just track your daily water intake and keep it around 3 liters. If you have any family history of kidney issues, get a quick creatinine test done first.

Generally it is safe for healthy youngsters, but please don't take high doses. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. It is always good to consult a doctor before starting any gym powders.

I ignored minor back pain and digestion issues while taking heavy supplements years back, and it turned into a major issue later. Don't make that mistake. If you want to take creatine, get your blood work done now and keep monitoring your kidney health every 6 months.

Honestly, even the thought of taking these powders makes me so nervous about my organs. What if we don't drink enough water one day and it damages something permanently? Please get a doctor's clearance first so you can sleep peacefully without worrying.
