Do cholesterol medications cause diabetes?

I've been on cholesterol medication for a few years now. Recently, my blood sugar levels have been borderline, which is concerning. Could my cholesterol medications be causing or contributing to diabetes?

Please don't ignore this or stop your pills on your own. I once stopped my cholesterol meds because of some online article and ended up in the emergency ward with high BP. If you are worried about your blood sugar, go get a HbA1c test done immediately and show it to your doctor.

Statins can sometimes slightly raise your blood sugar levels. But you can combat this by keeping yourself active. If your doctor allows, start doing a 30-minute brisk walk daily and cut down on refined carbs to keep your sugar in check naturally.

I read about this too and honestly it made me so anxious about my own dad's medications! It is so stressful when one medicine might trigger another issue. Just keep a close eye on any symptoms like extreme thirst or tiredness, and keep testing his sugar levels.

There is some clinical research showing a small link between statins and increased blood sugar, but the risk of heart issues is far more serious. Don't make any changes yourself. Please get a proper blood test and discuss the safety aspect with your cardiologist.

Heh, welcome to the age where curing one thing triggers another! Yes, my doctor also mentioned my sugar might go up slightly due to these statins. I just cut down on my evening tea biscuits to balance it out. Keep checking with your doctor though!

Hey, don't worry too much about this. While some cholesterol medications can slightly increase blood sugar, the benefit they provide for your heart is usually much higher. Just get regular blood panels done and keep your doctor in the loop, we will manage it.

Statins have been shown to have a small correlation with insulin resistance in some users. I track my dad's fasting glucose on my health app every month to spot any trends. It's a great way to stay on top of the data before your next doctor's appointment.

My husband has been taking cholesterol meds for five years now. The doctor told us there is a minor risk of sugar levels fluctuating, so we just monitor his diet strictly and do sugar tests every three months. It is very manageable with a bit of planning.
