Do cashews cause kidney stones?

I love snacking on cashews, they're my favourite dry fruit. But recently my aunt had kidney stones, and she was advised to avoid certain nuts. I'm worried if cashews are also on that list. Do cashews cause kidney stones?

Yes, cashews are high in oxalates, which can increase the risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones if eaten in large amounts.

Bro, I used to munch on a full bowl of salted cashews daily while gaming. My doctor told me to stop immediately because cashews have high oxalate levels, which can easily form stones if you don't drink enough water.

If you eat them in moderation, like 4-5 nuts a day, they won't cause issues. Just make sure to drink plenty of water to keep your kidneys flushed.

I ignored a dull ache in my side and kept eating high-oxalate foods like cashews and spinach daily. I ended up with a painful stone that needed clinical intervention. Please get any persistent back or side pain checked by a urologist.

Cashews indeed contain a high amount of oxalates. If you are already prone to calcium oxalate kidney stones, it is highly recommended to limit them and consume them with calcium-rich foods to block oxalate absorption.
