Do candles cause cancer?

I love burning scented candles in my room for relaxation and to make it smell nice. But someone on a social media group mentioned that candles can cause cancer, and now I'm a bit scared to use them. Is there any truth to this?

Lighting a candle brings so much peace and positive energy to the home. Just choose natural soy or beeswax candles instead of cheap paraffin ones. Breathe deeply, keep your space well-ventilated, and let go of these fearful thoughts.

I used to burn heavily scented paraffin candles all day until I realized they were giving me headaches and soot. I switched to making my own natural soy candles with essential oils like eucalyptus. It is much safer for the lungs and completely chemical-free.

As someone who recently went through cancer treatment, I became hyper-aware of everything in my environment. Normal occasional use of candles won't cause cancer, but cheap ones release soot which isn't good to inhale daily. Keep windows slightly open when using them.

I love lighting scented candles during my weekend dinner prep, it sets such a great mood! Honestly, unless you are literally eating the candle or burning fifty of them in a small closet, you are perfectly fine. Enjoy your cozy meals without worrying.

My family physician explained that while paraffin candles release small amounts of chemicals like toluene, it is not enough to cause cancer under normal conditions. However, burning them in closed, unventilated rooms for hours can cause respiratory irritation. Opt for lead-free wicks and natural wax.

I literally have five scented candles burning in my bedroom every single evening because I find them soothing. Now I am suddenly super anxious reading about chemical fumes. Does anyone else get headaches from them or feel worried about this?
