Do burning candles cause cancer?

I love lighting scented candles in my home for ambiance, especially in the evenings. However, my sister told me that burning candles can cause cancer due to the fumes. Is there any truth to this? Do burning candles cause cancer?

No, normal use of candles does not cause cancer. Just make sure the room has decent ventilation.

Relax, normal paraffin or soy candles won't cause cancer in a well-ventilated house. The main thing is to avoid inhaling direct soot or heavy smoke, especially if you have asthma or dust allergies. Just trim the wick to keep the flame clean.

I read that some cheap scented candles release chemicals which might affect hormones, so I am very careful with them because of my PCOS. I usually stick to natural soy or beeswax candles just to be safe, though there is no direct link to cancer.

I completely understand why you are worried about this, after a family member got sick I also started doubting everything in my house, even candles. It is exhausting to feel this way, but rest assured that burning a candle occasionally is safe.

Hamare yahan toh light jaane pe mombatti roz jalate hain, humein toh kabhi koi pareshani nahi hui. But yes, keeping a window slightly open is good so the smoke doesnt collect inside the room.
