Do blankets increase fever?

My child has a fever, and my mother-in-law insists I wrap her in blankets to 'sweat it out'. But I've also heard that using too many blankets can actually increase the fever. What's the right thing to do in such a situation?

Yes, wrapping yourself in heavy blankets traps your body heat and can actually raise your core temperature further. It is better to use a thin cotton sheet and monitor your temperature with a digital thermometer to see the trend.

I know it feels comforting to wrap up when you have the chills, but heavy blankets will just trap the heat and increase your fever. Use a single light bedsheet instead and keep the room well-ventilated so your body can cool down naturally.

Bro, definitely don't pile on those heavy blankets. When I had viral fever, I covered myself completely and my temperature shot up to 103. Just use a light sheet, even if you feel a bit of chills initially.

Hormones and thyroid issues can make us feel extra cold or hot during a fever, but heavy blankets are still not safe as they spike body temperature. Keep your covers light, and make sure to consult your doctor for proper tests to find the cause of the fever.

Please be very careful with high fevers; wrapping up in thick blankets can cause your temperature to spike rapidly, which can lead to severe weakness or even seizures in kids. If the fever stays high or doesn't come down with basic medicine, go see a doctor immediately.

In our family, elders used to say to sweat out a fever under heavy blankets, but our doctor advised us against it. He told us that trapping the heat only worsens the fever, so a simple thin cotton cloth is much safer.

Heavy blankets are not good during high fever as they don't let the heat escape. A simple, practical solution is to wear light cotton clothes, use a thin bedsheet, and do normal water sponging to bring the temperature down safely.

Oh yes, those heavy blankets will definitely trap your body heat and make the fever go up! Go for a nice light sheet instead, drink lots of warm fluids, and get well soon! 🌸

Heavy blankets definitely trap body heat and elevate the fever. To get back to work quickly, keep the room at a normal temperature, wear light cotton clothes, and use a damp cloth on your forehead to bring the temperature down.

Hey, don't stress too much! I know you are feeling cold right now, but please don't use those thick blankets because they will just trap the heat and make your fever climb. Just use a thin sheet and rest up, you will be fine.

I once tried to sweat out a high fever under three blankets instead of visiting the clinic, and ended up severely dehydrated in the hospital. Please don't repeat my mistake; keep covers light and get a proper medical checkup if the fever persists.

Just like your muscles need to cool down after a heavy workout, your body needs to vent heat when fighting a fever. Avoid heavy blankets, stay well-hydrated with water and coconut water, and let your body heat escape naturally.

I know how terrifying it is when you are shivering and don't know whether to cover up or not. But please try to stay calm and avoid thick blankets, as trapping that heat will only raise your temperature. A light sheet is much safer for your peace of mind.

Let your body breathe naturally during a fever instead of covering it with heavy layers. Rest quietly, drink warm herbal tea, and keep the mind calm; a light cotton sheet is more than enough to keep you comfortable.

I was actually researching this during my last cold because we always get conflicting advice. It turns out that heavy blankets can interfere with the body's natural way of sweating out heat, which can dangerously spike a high fever.
