Do black people get skin cancer from the sun?

My friends and I were discussing the importance of sun protection, and someone asked a question that stumped us. Do black people also get skin cancer from sun exposure, or is their skin type naturally more resistant to UV damage?

It is true that melanin offers a lot of natural protection, but they can still get skin damage and cancer from sun exposure. I always overthink my own skin spots, so I think everyone, regardless of skin color, should wear sunscreen just to be absolutely safe.

Haan, melanin ki wajah se unhe sun se protection toh milti hai, par bilkul zero risk nahi hota na. Sun damage kisi ko bhi ho sakta hai, isliye sunscreen lagana sabke liye zaroori hai.

While the risk is much lower because of natural skin pigment, sun protection is still a good habit. Wearing a simple cotton hat or staying in the shade during peak hours is an easy and free way to protect your skin.

I was actually reading about this yesterday and found out that although melanin acts as a natural shield against UV rays, it doesn't make someone 100% immune to sun-induced skin cancers. It's a really interesting medical topic.

According to dermatological data logged on health apps, UV index exposure affects all skin types to varying degrees. Even with high melanin, prolonged UV exposure can cause cellular damage, so tracking your outdoor sun time is still recommended.
