Do beets give you kidney stones?

My father has had kidney stones, so I'm a bit cautious about foods that might cause them. I really like adding beets to my salad, but I heard they can contribute to kidney stone formation. Should I stop eating them to be safe?

With busy work schedules, we tend to drink very little water, which is the main culprit for stones. Beets do have high oxalates, but if you stay well hydrated throughout the day, the risk is minimal. Just don't overconsume beetroot juice daily.

I actually had to get a small kidney stone removed last year. My doctor explicitly told me to cut down on spinach, beets, and nuts because they are very high in oxalates. If you've had stones before, it is definitely better to avoid eating beets regularly.

I didn't know beets could cause kidney issues, I've just started adding them to my daily diet. Is it safe if I only eat them once or twice a week, or should I stop completely? I am a bit worried now.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to read about food risks online, I used to panic over every small ingredient. Yes, beets have oxalates, but they don't cause stones in everyone. Try not to stress too much, eating them in normal food portions is usually very safe for healthy people.

My grandmother always said that eating everything in moderation is the key to good health. However, my doctor mentioned that for people prone to calcium oxalate stones, beets should be limited. I suggest taking advice from your physician based on your personal health history.

Bro, if you eat them like a normal person, nothing will happen. I eat beetroot salad daily with my meals and my kidneys are perfectly fine. Just make sure you are drinking plenty of water during the day, that's what actually matters.

I've been drinking a glass of beetroot juice every morning for my hemoglobin. After hearing about the stone risk, I am getting really anxious. Has anyone here actually developed kidney stones from beetroot juice, or is it rare?

To prevent stones, always drink fresh coconut water and plenty of plain water to flush out the system naturally. But please remember, if you ever feel a sudden, sharp pain in your back or lower stomach, don't wait for home remedies to work and go straight to a doctor.

I was just doing some online research about high-oxalate foods because my cousin recently got kidney stones. It turns out beets are indeed high on the list, along with spinach and chocolate. Quite interesting how even healthy veggies can have some side effects!

Beets are actually great for a pre-workout pump because of the nitrates, but yes, they do carry high oxalates. If you are an active person drinking 3-4 liters of water daily, it shouldn't be an issue. Balance your intake and keep your hydration levels high.
