Do babies sleep more when growing?

Our baby has been sleeping a lot recently, and he seems to be getting bigger very quickly. Someone told me babies often sleep more when they are growing. Is there a connection between increased sleep and baby's growth?

Yes, sleep is a beautiful state where the body restores and expands its energy. As they grow, their tiny systems need quiet time to integrate all the new changes. Stay positive and let them rest peacefully.

According to my baby tracker app, there is a clear spike in sleep duration right before a physical growth milestone. Their brains and bodies consume a lot of energy to grow, which naturally makes them sleep more.

My baby cousin sleeps like 16 hours a day sometimes and then suddenly looks taller next week! It's actually crazy how much they sleep when they are growing. Totally normal if you ask me.

Yes, they do. Growth hormone secretion peaks during deep sleep, so sleeping more is physically required for their development. Just make sure they are still waking up to feed properly.

Yes, they definitely need extra sleep during their growth phases. It is very natural, so please don't worry and let them sleep.

While extra sleep during growth is normal, please don't assume every long sleep is just a growth spurt. I once ignored my baby's extreme sleepiness, which turned out to be a mild fever. Always get a quick checkup if they seem too unresponsive.

It is completely normal for them to sleep more during growth spurts, so you don't need to run for expensive doctor consultations or diagnostic tests unless they show other signs of sickness. Just keep track of their wet diapers at home.
