Do babies get a fever when teething?
My 6-month-old is drooling a lot and chewing everything, so I think she's teething. She also has a low-grade fever today. Is it common for babies to get a fever when they are teething?

My 8-month-old is teething right now and honestly, between the constant crying and the mild warm forehead, I don't know who has more fever—the baby or my brain. The body temperature rises a little bit, but anything over 100 degrees is usually some other bug, not just teething.

With my children, I noticed they would get slightly warm and irritable during teething. Instead of rushing to give medicines, a gentle massage of the gums with a clean, damp cotton cloth dipped in cool water worked wonders to calm them down.
Our pediatrician clarified that teething may cause a tiny rise in temperature, but medically it never causes a true fever above 100.4°F. If the baby has a higher fever along with diarrhea, it is likely a viral infection and needs medical attention.
