Do antibiotics reduce fever?

My grandson has a viral infection and the doctor prescribed some antibiotics. His fever is quite high. I remember a doctor telling me once that antibiotics don't reduce fever directly. Is that correct, or do they help bring it down as the infection gets treated?

Don't blindly believe anyone who says antibiotics cure any kind of fever. They do not work on viral infections like common cold or flu, so always verify with a doctor before taking them.

I am always cautious about taking antibiotics because they can affect my gut and hormonal balance. They don't directly reduce fever unless the fever is due to a specific bacterial infection, so check with your doctor first.

I get so anxious when my fever doesn't go down immediately and I feel like taking antibiotics. But actually, they don't lower temperature; they just clear the infection over a few days. Paracetamol is what really helps with the fever.

Why take heavy medicines unnecessarily? For a normal fever, just take crocin, drink warm water, and rest for two days. Antibiotics are only needed if a doctor detects a bacterial infection after testing.

I agree, antibiotics won't work if it is a viral fever. Just stick to paracetamol and take plenty of rest.

My doctor prescribed antibiotics for my throat infection and fever, but even after two doses, my fever hasn't gone down. Does it usually take a couple of days for the medicine to show results?

I once self-prescribed antibiotics for a high fever and ended up with severe stomach ulcers and no relief from the fever. Please consult a proper doctor to find the real cause of your fever instead of guessing.

Your body needs all its energy to fight the fever, so skip your workouts for now. Antibiotics won't lower your temperature immediately, so focus on absolute rest and hydration instead.

A fever is just the body's natural way of burning out toxins. Instead of rushing to take heavy antibiotics, try lukewarm water sponge baths and deep, calm breathing to help the body cool down naturally.

No, antibiotics don't have antipyretic properties to bring down your temperature. If you track your vitals, you'll see the fever only subsides once the underlying bacterial infection is cleared by the antibiotic course.

My brother has a mild fever and someone suggested giving him leftover antibiotics from last time. Is it safe to do that, or should we wait and see a doctor tomorrow?

No, they don't lower fever directly! Just take your regular fever medicine, drink lots of fluids, and you'll be back on your feet in no time.
