Do antibiotics cause kidney stones?

My mother has a history of kidney stones, and recently she needed to take antibiotics for an infection. We were wondering if there's any link between taking antibiotics and the formation of kidney stones. Is this something we should be worried about?

I try to be very careful with any medication because of my PCOS. While most common antibiotics don't cause kidney stones, some specific ones can affect calcium levels in the urine. It is always safer to ask your doctor if you have a family history of stones.

Please don't believe random online posts claiming certain pills cause stones. Only certain rare antibiotics can increase the risk if taken in high doses, so you must verify this directly with a qualified doctor instead of guessing.

Haan na, some antibiotics can form crystals in urine if we don't drink enough water. Doctor block me humesha bolte hain ki koi bhi strong tablet lo toh paani khoob saara peena chahiye safety ke liye.

My son had to take a long course of antibiotics for a bone infection, and we were so worried about side effects like stones. His pediatrician told us to just keep him very well hydrated throughout the day, and he was absolutely fine.

According to some medical journals I tracked, certain antibiotic groups can alter gut bacteria that process oxalates, slightly increasing stone risk. Just make sure to log your water intake and keep hydrated while taking them.

Look, whether antibiotics cause stones or not, the simplest solution is to drink 3-4 liters of water daily when you are on any medication. It flushes out all toxins and prevents any crystal formation naturally without any cost.

When I was treated for a kidney infection at Apollo, the specialist explained that some specific classes of antibiotics can increase stone risk in rare cases. You should ask your doctor clearly about this before starting your dose.
