Do antibiotics bring down a fever?

My younger brother has a fever and the doctor prescribed antibiotics for an infection. I always thought antibiotics fight infection. Do they also directly help in bringing down the fever itself, or is that a separate effect as the infection clears?

Whenever I had a viral fever, antibiotics did absolutely nothing to bring my temperature down. My doctor told me they only work if the fever is caused by a bacterial infection, not a common cold or flu.

I know how scary it is when a high fever won't go down and you feel desperate for any medicine to work. But please don't pop antibiotics without a doctor's prescription, as they won't help unless it is definitely a bacterial issue.

I always keep my health parameters checked due to my BP. In my experience, taking antibiotics blindly for a simple fever is a bad idea and can upset your stomach. A doctor should decide if you actually need them after checking your blood reports.

Antibiotics are not paracetamol; they do not directly lower your body temperature. For a mild fever, resting well, staying hydrated with warm water, and letting the body heal naturally is often very effective.

A fever is just your body fighting an infection. Don't rush to take antibiotics for it. Try applying a cool damp cloth on the forehead and drinking warm tulsi water, and consult a doctor if the fever stays high for more than two days.
