Do alzheimer's patients sleep a lot?

My father, who has Alzheimer's, seems to sleep much more now than he used to, sometimes even during the day. We're wondering if this is a normal part of the condition. Do Alzheimer's patients typically sleep a lot?

As people age, their brain functions change, and with Alzheimer's, the sleep-wake cycle often gets completely disturbed. It is vital to get regular checkups with their doctor to ensure their medications or other health issues are not causing excess drowsiness.

From what I have read while researching neurological health, excessive sleeping can happen as the disease progresses because the brain cells damage. But please discuss this with their neurologist to rule out any other side effects.

Yes, in the later stages, they do tend to sleep much more because the brain gets tired easily. Sending you a lot of strength, caregiving is a very tough job.

My grandfather has Alzheimer's, and yes, he sleeps almost 14-15 hours a day now. Our doctor told us that as the brain shrinks, they just don't have the energy to stay awake, so it is quite common.

Haan, hamare padosi ke father ko bhi tha and he used to sleep a lot, especially in the afternoon. Caregivers ke liye bahut exhaust hone waali baat hai na, please take care of yourself too.
