Do albatross sleep while flying?

Watching a wildlife show the other day, they were showing albatrosses. It made me wonder, do these birds actually manage to sleep while they're flying for such long distances over the ocean? It seems impossible, but I'm curious.

I was reading about this and got so fascinated but also a bit anxious. Is it true they can do this for hours without crashing? Has anyone else read about how their brain works during this?

Yes, they can sleep while gliding using unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. It is a proven scientific fact.

It is true, they have a natural mechanism to lock their wings. We humans need proper rest in a quiet room, so don't try to compromise on your own sleep!

I actually did a whole project on seabirds during my recent marine biology course. They can fly for years over the ocean and take micro-naps of a few seconds while gliding.
