Can zoloft cause vomiting?

I just started taking Zoloft this week and for the past two days, I've been feeling very nauseous and have vomited a couple of times. Is vomiting a common initial side effect of Zoloft?

Oh man, when I first started Zoloft, even my favorite spicy pav bhaji made me feel super nauseous, and I actually threw up twice. My doc told me to never take it on an empty stomach. Eating a banana or a slice of toast right before taking the pill completely solved it for me!

In our family, we usually take ginger tea or buttermilk to settle a throwing-up sensation. But since you are on a prescribed medication like Zoloft, the vomiting could be an initial side effect as your body adjusts. It is best to consult your doctor to see if the dose needs to be built up slowly.

I was researching Zoloft side effects because my roommate just started it, and yes, nausea and vomiting are listed as very common start-up side effects. Apparently, it usually gets better after a week or two once your brain and gut adjust to the serotonin levels.

Don't go trying random home remedies or taking over-the-counter anti-vomiting pills without asking. Vomiting can interfere with how your body absorbs the actual antidepressant. Call your psychiatrist's office directly and ask them how to manage this safely.

Beta, don't worry too much. When we start heavy medicines, our stomach often gets upset and we feel like vomiting. Try sucking on a small piece of ginger or a lemon, and rest well. If you still feel very sick, please talk to your doctor.

My health tracker showed a major spike in my heart rate and sleep disturbances when I was feeling nauseous from my meds. If the vomiting is making you very weak, log your symptoms and share the data with your doctor so they can assess if you need a different SSRI.

I know how exhausting it is to feel nauseous all day. Drinking warm water with black salt and mint leaves can help soothe a troubled stomach. But since this is from Zoloft, please let your doctor know if the vomiting continues for more than three days.

Vomiting can really ruin your workouts and deplete your electrolytes quickly. If you are throwing up from Zoloft, make sure you are replenishing with ORS or coconut water. Keep your meals very simple and low in fat until your stomach settles.
